On John Street there is a large maroon coloured building.  A couple of murals have been painted on it.

At one end of the street is this mural by Marcamix, Evolve Urban Arts.

Yeats poem, Sligo

On a wall in Sligo Ireland, written large, is a poem by William Butler Yeats.   It is called “When You are Old” and it goes like this:

a mural covers the side of a multistorey building, a woman's head and lines of poetry, When you are old by William Butler Yeats.

 

When you are old and grey and full of sleep,
And nodding by the fire, take down this book,
And slowly read, and dream of the soft look
Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;

How many loved your moments of glad grace,
And loved your beauty with love false or true,
But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you,
And loved the sorrows of your changing face;

And bending down beside the glowing bars,
Murmur, a little sadly, how Love fled
And paced upon the mountains overhead
And hid his face amid a crowd of stars.

He was spotted all over town!

In an alley near rue Mont Royal and rue Saint Denis is a mural based on the characters from the story of Alice in Wonderland – the white rabbit worrying about the time, a grinning cheshire cat who rises above it all, human playing cards, and a dopey looking hookah smoking caterpillar.  (photos spring 2015)

Chambers Street Footscray

Chambers street is a short street near Footscray train station.  It dead ends at the section of Nicholson street that is a pedestrian mall.  It is like a lane in that no buildings front on to it.  There is a small park part way along the street.

Bedford, Denison and Alton murals

Bedford St., Denison St. and Alton Lane are all close to Newton train station.  Bedford runs parallel to the train tracks and some of the murals painted there can be seen from the other side of the tracks.
