Lynn is a town in Massachusetts just outside of Boston. It is also one of the towns that participate in Beyond Walls, a non-profit organization that believes that art can build better cities. There is a lot of street art here! This isn’t the first post about Lynn – it is a look at some of the painting along the railway line near the station in central Lynn.
below: As the railway passes through Lynn, it is above grade. The sections underneath along the parking lot on Mt Vernon Street have been decorated with street art murals. The large building in the background is on the other side of the tracks and is featured in another blog post, Behind a building on Union Street
below: At one end of the parking lot is a large mural that is a collaboration between Yu-Baba and Key Detail.
below: On the other side of the tracks there is more art.
below: A canine-like critter (dog? wolf?) with a black shiny nose and sharp white teeth by Ghost Beard
below: Nead2‘s rendition of Bart Simpson as a graffiti artist.
below: It seems to rise like a plume of smoke – a painting on one of the pillars supporting the railway bridge, painted by Yuknow K Lou
<
below: Also by the tracks…
below: Ruben Ubiera painted this mural on Silsbee Street close to the railway tracks and station. There are words on the black band on the gorilla’s shoulder that say “Entering Lynn”.
below: Lastly, just across from the tracks Kevin Ledo has painted “Do you realize” on the side of one of the small apartment buildings.
Stramurales curated by the Stornara Life association. Since I visited the city in February 2024, many more murals have been painted on Stornara’s walls. Even though this is my eighth blog post showing Stornara murals, there are many that you will have to go to see for yourself! …. or of course you could check out the Stornara Life website.
below: Graffmatt painted this child with a leaf among the bags of trash, all in blues. It’s title in “Desperate World”
below: “No Looking Back” by Zabou. In case you can’t see it, the title of the book is, “Unione Europea, Repubblica Italiana”
below: Liberami da tutto il male (= Deliver me from all evil) by Brazilian artist Alex Senna; his murals are almost always in shades of gray.
below: “Love overcomes death”, by JDL (aka Judith de Leeuw). The same woman in three different, but similar, positions.
below: Only the flower has color.
below: Caratoes painted this portrait, titled “La Ragazza Meccanica”. This translates to The Mechanical Girl. A machine, or robot, with a mask to make her look human.
below: Both of these pieces are by No Chance (or No Chance Crew), Mona Lisa with her Anonymous mask, and the elderly couple in “Eternal Love”
below: Someone has left a drink for Ghost
below: Zip is the artist who created this little piece – a barefoot girl and a teddy bear.
below; A plain brick wall has been transformed – this mural by Vesod looks so real! The 3-D effect is so well done!
below: A field of red poppies and a blue head scarf in another Zabou mural, “Girl Lying Among the Poppies”
below: “Positive Light” by Alaniz – a mural with bats and a white dove that seems to glow.
below: Your dream, dreaming as you drive, by Antonio Giuliani – but the needed context is that this was painted in August 2020 so she is dreaming of freedom after the COVID lockdowns of 2020.
below: A bit creepy, this skeleton is trying to kiss the girl (or it could be the other way around?). It was a collaboration between Diamond and Solo (Flavio) and is titled “Sommernacht” which is German for Summer Night.
below: “It’s Too Late for Revolution” by Lucione Samoa
below: “One of my Friend” (with a pug looking on), by Artez
below: This mural is a collaboration between Zabou and Bifido.
below: Another piece by No Chance; this one is called “Giovanna Darkness”.
below: The first of at least two Dale Grimshaw paintings in Stornara is this one in blue.
below: The second Dale Grimshaw portrait is also a male, but this time it is a Papuasian holy man.
below: “Two Ancient Faces”, one male and one female combined, in a mural by Aero.
below: A little mouse with a magic wand stands beside a bright pink pair of running shoes, or sneakers, with matching pink laces. This was painted by Aurora Agrestini.
below: The monkey, or ape, is a mural by Smok with a great title, “OMG Humans”.
below: “The White Tiger” by Martina Pesce.
below: Pooh Bear but oh! This is not the Winnie the Pooh you thought you knew. This Winnie, painted by Kris Rizek, seems to be getting ready to be up to no good! A gas mask? cans of spray paint? and what’s in that green bottle?
below: Celebrating an event from 16 April 1519.

below: Stornara Life. As I walked around the town, a local woman who spoke no English (and I can’t speak much Italian) made sure that I understood that it was the people at Stornara Life who brought the artists and their work to Stornara.
below: The last mural for this post is “The Crowd of Fools” painted by Gods in Love. It covers two sides of a building. I don’t have a photo of the whole mural – instead I will leave you with a few bits and pieces.
below: There is a mural on the side of the Amsterdam News building on Frederick Douglas Blvd. The full mural shows two women and a child under a baobab tree. “A Family’s Tree” by Alexandre Keto.
below: By any means necessary
below: The top part of this painting has been covered by the ads. The words “Show Love to Artist”, as well as the gold crown that the man is wearing, have been obscured. That side of the wall was painted by Amir Diop.
below: Too many humans and not enuf souls. The blue is a remnant from a previous paste-up while the bleeding eyes are from yet another layer.
below: Handcuffs, a gun, and a bottle of liquor – but turn your back on all that and head towards reading and education.
below: Under the railway tracks.
Life’s path is not always so clear. Many of us look, but still don’t see. We hear but still don’t listen. This doesn’t mean that slavery doe not exist. Jesus struggles through great obstacles so that we could learn how to be free; how to find our way through darkness. Many of us will continue down a path of destruction like chained slaves toward their grave. Be free my friends, be free.
below: We fit you to a T featuring Mr. T. from the 1980s TV show, “The A-Team”. His given name was Laurence Tureaud.
below: We are New Yorkers.
below: That’s a lot of words! Zeitgeist is defined as “the defining spirit or mood of a particular period of history as shown by the ideas and beliefs of the time” Perhaps this poster captures the zeitgeist of New York City in the 2020s.
below: There are two large murals along the walls at Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Plaza.
There is an aquatic (and fisheries) themed mural that can be seen from the Pinellas Loop Trail in St. Petersburg. It was painted by PlasticBirdie (Jeremy Nichols) and BlaineFontana during the SHINE Mural Festival in 2019 in partnership with PangeaSeed Foundation’s Sea Walls. Funding was provided by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA). It is over 120 feet long and took eight days to paint. It’s title is “The 8th Funky Fish Town”.
below: Each of the 7 pegs describes one of Florida’s local fisheries. Number 1 is Madeira Beach and number 2 is Panama City …. followed by 3. Cortez, 4. Apalachicola (for oysters), 5.Steinhatchee (for scallops) 6. Matlacha and 7. Key West
below: A coral reef with a dark red grouper fish poking its head out. A gray manta ray is also pictured.
below: And last, a giant green eel with many arrows.
A previous post showed a number of murals that have been painted near the corner of Cooke and Pohukaina Streets in the Kaka’ako district of Honolulu. If you were to stay on Pohukaina Street instead of turning on Cooke, you would walk past another wall of murals. This is that wall. It takes up the whole block.
below: At the corner with Cooke Street
below: Dinosaur head? Pterodactyl?
below: Green theme… as in ecologically green, with clean water and sustainable crops.
This post first appeared in my Toronto blog back in 2019. I am posting here because I have learned that this mural has been painted over.
In Toronto, just south of St. Clair West, Runnymede Road runs under the CP train tracks. In the summer of 2017 the wall on the west side of the underpass a mural was painted by Christopher Ross (aka GAWD). It is a collection of animals, mostly in shades of pink and blue – dragonfly, pigs, birds, and more. Most of the animals are in pairs.
At one end of the mural, this little engine sits on a tree stump.
This post is the third in a series about the old Mission Linen building in Las Vegas. The other two posts looked at the graffiti and street art on the east and west walls. Links to the other posts can be found at the bottom of this post.
The old Mission Linen building is/was at the corner of South 1st Street and Coolidge Avenue in Las Vegas. The north wall (facing Coolidge) was covered with a lot of street art but I suspect that it is long gone – Google’s Street View shows the building painted white (from 2023).
below: There were also some photographs that look like they are part of an Inside Out Global Art project.
below: On the left, a macabre mural by Broken Fingaz
below: Teach Peace by Thresh Techr
below: Faces to the right are by Uncutt Art while the cat? reclining top centre is part of a series, Milk the Bunny, by Omayra Amador .
below: A very square and very still robot. Cookie.
below: It’s probably unfinished? Each image is a letter of the alphabet? Maybe it ends with R O E? An image search with google was not helpful so I only have questions….
With thanks to Landon who let me walk around with my camera.
