As seen around Montreal on the weekend of 14-16 June 2015
below: first, an oldie on a page from a French book. I’m not sure what book it is, but it includes the words “protège la virilité de l’époux” which translate to “protects the virility of husband“

Using stickers, paste ups, and spraypaint, Starchild Stela is a graffiti artist who combines cute feminine characters with slogans. I’d like to say that they are ‘common sense’ slogans but unfortunately they aren’t. For example:
“my body, my choice”

and “consent is mandatory”

and “support survivors”

“destroy rape culture”

“leave me alone”

“gender studies”

The following pieces of graffiti and street art were found in a lane that more an entranceway to an apartment complex parking garage than an alley. I forgot to make note of where it was, except that it is somewhere in Fitzroy. There were a number of tag-like, or letter, graffiti that I didn’t photograph. Amongst those there were a few stencils and paste-ups that were interesting.

Chambers street is a short street near Footscray train station. It dead ends at the section of Nicholson street that is a pedestrian mall. It is like a lane in that no buildings front on to it. There is a small park part way along the street.
below: This picture appears in a previous post ‘Guerilla territory’ because the large paste-up is a work by baby guerilla. This building fronts on to Paisley street.

below: The murals and street art across the bottom of the building shown above.

Paste-ups seen on Artist Lane, Windsor (Melbourne) this past weekend.
Artist Lane runs parallel to Chapel St. between Green and Union streets, just north of Windsor station. It has the highest concentration of good street art that I have seen yet in Melbourne. I have too many pictures for one blog post. As a result, have divided it up into sections, paste-ups (paper), stencils, and paintings. Here are the paste-ups.
below: It’s twenty seconds into 11:50 somewhere in the world.
I wonder what time the alarm is set for?

below: A perfect afternoon to sit and watch the world go by.

below: Cans inside of cans inside of cans. Tin Babushka dolls.

below: Beware of wolves in sheep’s clothing

below: Spraying on a happy face.

below: Flying away. Spraying only where eagles dare.

below: In case of emergency, smile. Put on a happy face.

below: Many words. Many bent and leaning columns at the tipping point.

below: Every T-shirt tells a story, of sailing ships and volcanoes about to blow.

below: Watching paint dry, or maybe just thinking about it.

below: The snail is printed on scrap paper? or is there significance to the fact that the original purpose of the paper was information about Julius Baer, a Swiss private financial company, and EMA Partners, a company that matches executives with international companies, also based in Switzerland.

below: with a sigh and a shrug.

below: Stop on red signal. If you look closely, you’ll see that there is more to it than that.

A lot of the above art was done by Phoenix, a Melbourne street artist.
More information about him can be found on his website
It’s a short walk north from Brunswick station on the Melbourne Metro train line to the next station, Anstey. A bike and pedestrian path runs beside the train tracks. Some of the following photos were taken along that path while some of the photos were from nearby lanes.
