The Angel Brewery is where the Arts District of Los Angeles meets Little Tokyo. It has been located in the Roebling’s Sons building the corner of Alameda St. and Traction Ave. since 2010. The building is now also home to a number of small pieces of street art.

The world is changing….

The previous post, Utopia and smiley faces, showed a mural on Via Regina Margherita in Stornara. It is not the only mural on that wall. This is the next chapter in the story.

below: Princess Mononoke and she-wolf Moro come from an animated Japanese film. The story is about “Mononoke” (a “wolf-girl”), a foundling raised by the Goddess – Lupa Moro, protector of the forest. The plot is too and complicated for this blog post, but it involves a the war between the forest gods and the people of Irontown.

TRANSLATION: The fox is the coyote of the Mediterranean. It slips through the “macchia” (grassland). Its fur takes on the scent of wild plants and its eyes are filled with the thirst for freedom. The fox does not stop at barriers or fences, like many souls balanced on borders.
It represents the daisy, which is Italy’s national flower. The olive and the laurel, emblematic of the Mediterranean, the oak for its strength, the sativa oat for its particular way of dispersing seeds (it also grabs onto the fox to plant itself on the other side of the field, avoiding the genetic impoverishment of the species) and the opium for having a flower that loses its petals when you cut it, since its beauty can only be admired when it is alive and free.

Along the Riverbank

There is a new mural (2022) in Toronto by Nick Sweetman featuring animals and plant life commonly found along Ontario’s rivers, especially the Don River that flows nearby. It adorns a wall/fence that runs the length of a new park, Riverside Square, which is southeast of Queen and the Don Valley Parkway.

Turtle Island, essential workers, and others

The name Turtle Island comes from creation stories told by a number of indigenous groups of North America. It represents North America (or the Earth).

There is another large mural in downtown Belleville. It is a much more literal representation of the city and includes a few of that city’s landmarks.

Lucas Antics, Bristol England

Alex Lucas & Paul Fearnside are the two artists that are Lucas Antics. Among their many talents is mural painting; this blog post features some of the murals that they have painted in their home town of Bristol. The photos are from the spring of 2017.

Casablanca murals, Derb Ghallef

There is an incredible amount of good street art scattered around Casablanca, especially large murals on the ends of apartment buildings.

On Blvd Anoual in the Derb Ghallef neighbourhood is this painting by NDZW, a street artist from Vienna Austria. It was completed in 2019 as part of that year’s Sbagha Bagha
