below: Wrdsmth – “This is my palette.  A mere twenty-six deep, yet the possibilities are infinite.”  … Plus his typewriter that appears in all his graffiti and street art.  The mural also credits PowWow Worcester which was an annual arts festival (for a few years prior to 2021) that was responsible for bringing a number of murals to the city.

Phlegm’s progress.

British mural artist Phlegm has been painting a large mural on the side of 1 St. Clair West.   The first time I saw it, was on the 14th of July, 2016, when it looked liked this:

As it turns out, there is a lot of detail in the mural!  It slowly took shape.

below: Fast forward to August 2016 when the mural was almost finished. …
but wait!  Isn’t that the CN tower on the shoulder?

below: There’s the ROM and its ‘crystal’ too!   This is the ‘bottom’ of the figure and in this photo two things become clearer.  First, the scale of the project and just how big the mural is becomes apparent.  Second, the mural is of a person coming out of the earth, being pulled out by the roots almost.  But is it a person?  Or is it a living city?

animals on rue Ontario

On Montreal’s rue Ontario, close to rue Moreau and the railway tracks, there is a long brick building close to the sidewalk. At one end there is a painting of a squirrel with an object in his little front paws. This nut shaped object has a label that says Courrier Plus which turns out to be a trucking/transportation company and the owner of the building on which the mural is painted.

The rest of the mural features a red fire hydrant, a pigeon and a toucan with a beak in rainbow colours.
